FOSS in the Arab Region

While FOSS is rapidly gaining hold in several developing countries, it is lagging behind in the Arab Region. Several factors contribute to the apparent lack of FOSS activity and support in this field. One factor is related to the relatively low Internet penetration, poor education systems, language barriers and lack of official interest.

Nevertheless, several initiatives were launched in the Arab countries with the purpose of spreading the emerging concept of FOSS and highlighting its importance and significance for the region.
